Job Description

About CRU:

CRU International is a leading provider of business intelligence and consulting services in the metals, mining, and fertilizer industries. With over 50 years of experience, we offer valuable insights and analysis that help our clients make informed decisions in an ever-changing global market.

About the role:

CRU is seeking a Senior Copper & Zinc Markets Analyst to lead high-impact research and client engagement from our North America hub. Partnering closely with Principal Analysts and the Head of Copper & Zinc, this role delivers market-leading insights across short- and long-term dynamics, including supply-demand modelling, scenario building, primary research, price formation and forecasting. You will drive cross-commodity narratives, provide thought leadership, build an external profile, and mentor early-career analysts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct primary and secondary research across copper and zinc value chains, building relationships to generate proprietary intelligence for routine publications and ad‑hoc insights.
  • Translate market insights into CRU datasets and models to deliver credible analysis and forecasts across end uses and the value chain.
  • Build and maintain copper- and zinc-specific datasets, methodologies, and IP that create commercial value and drive consistency across CRU’s Market Services.
  • Deliver robust, decision-ready analysis and champion distinctive, client-focused thinking to elevate content and engagement.
  • Balance timely, high-quality analytical delivery with proactive client engagement and commercial activity.
  • Represent CRU as a copper and zinc expert at media engagements, conferences, and client forums to strengthen our external profile.
  • Collaborate with Principal Analysts and leadership to identify new opportunities and support renewals by aligning insights to client needs.
  • Mentor early-career analysts to develop analytical skills, sector expertise, and engagement techniques.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a top-tier institution (economics, business, or commercial disciplines preferred; technical degrees in geology, metallurgy, or engineering also relevant).
  • Postgraduate qualifications are an advantage.

Skills & Experience:

  • 5+ years in mining and metals commodity research (direct industry experience highly advantageous); 2+ years in roles directly related to copper and/or zinc.
  • Prior experience as an Analyst or Economist within the following industries is relevant: commodities, mining, natural resources, metallurgy, utilities, heavy industry, manufacturing, energy, macroeconomic or equity research.
  • Proven ability to gather and critically analyze both qualitative and quantitative data, identifying key trends and drivers to produce distinctive insights.
  • High numeracy with capability to interpret, manipulate, and manage large datasets; strong grasp of mathematical concepts and processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; confident engaging with market participants across mediums.
  • Collaborative approach with the global CRU Analysis team, fostering learning and best-practice sharing.
  • Commercial mindset with understanding of subscription business drivers; focused on value creation for clients and revenue/profit optimization.
  • Balance of personal initiative and effective teamwork; able to build trust and credibility with clients and stakeholders.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary and flexible benefits package.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development as part of a global company.
  • A collaborative and supportive work environment.
  • The chance to work with industry-leading experts and over a diverse range of topics and projects.
