Job Title: Construction Accountant

Position Overview:
The Construction Accountant is responsible for supporting and managing key financial operations of the organization. Reporting directly to the Director of Finance, this position plays a vital role in overseeing accounting, compliance, and financial reporting activities. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, financial expertise, and a proactive approach to improving accounting processes and systems.
Key areas of focus include general ledger maintenance, financial statement preparation, monthly close procedures, billing, invoice processing, and subcontractor financial documentation. The Construction Accountant will also serve as a key support to project accounting using software such as Procore and Sage 300.
Key Responsibilities
· Financial Reporting & Compliance
○ Assist with monthly and year-end close procedures○ Prepare support documentation for audits and financial reviews○ Take ownership of assigned balance sheet accounts○ Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal financial policies
· Invoice & Payment Management
○ Review and process project-related invoices○ Acquire necessary approvals and enter data into Procore and Sage 300○ Collect and organize lien waivers○ Review open invoices and process vendor payments as needed
· Billing & Accounts Receivable
○ Generate partner billing as directed○ Process received payments and reconcile outstanding receivables○ Maintain accurate and up-to-date billing documentation
· Subcontractor Filings & Documentation
○ Review and maintain insurance certificates for all subcontractors○ Organize and file daily invoices, change orders, and subcontractor billing○ Collect and track lien waivers, insurance documents, bonds, and invoicing records
· Process Improvement & System Support
○ Participate in identifying opportunities for process improvements○ Assist in streamlining accounting procedures and system enhancements○ Serve as a support contact for project accounting software (Procore, Sage 300)

Required Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
· 3+ years of general accounting experience
· Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems, with experience in project accounting modules preferred.
· Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
· Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Office Suite
· Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
· Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
· High degree of flexibility, resourcefulness, and professionalism
· Strong commitment to process improvement
Preferred Qualifications
· Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
· Previous experience working in the construction or related industries (e.g., engineering, manufacturing, real estate development, or infrastructure) with a focus on project-based accounting, cost tracking, and financial reporting for construction projects.
· Familiarity with monthly close procedures
· Experience with Sage 300 and Procore software. Familiar with Mac computers and/or PC.
